PLDO Partner Brian J. Lamoureux's article on Cybersecurity and medical devices: Informed consent in digital age was published in Providence Business News. The article describes and offers insight into the important issue of informed consent for health care providers and patients through the lens of the expanding Internet of Things (IoT) including wearable medical devices that may increase exposure to cyberattacks.

Principal William E. O’Gara and Partner Matthew C. Reeber co-authored an article on Rhode Island’s new paid time off law that was published in Rhode Island Small Business Journal. Their article entitled, New Rhode Island Law Requires Employers to Provide Paid Sick Leave, provides an overview and key highlights of the new law. Attorneys O’Gara and Reeber are employment law attorneys and litigators. Both attorneys are frequent guest speakers on employment law topics and conduct training workshops on important HR issues as part of their practice.

February 2018

Partner Matthew C. Reeber was interviewed for an article entitled, #MeToo reshaping landscape for sexual harassment claims, that was published in Lawyers Weekly, Rhode Island and Massachusetts editions. The article takes a deep dive into changes in sexual harassment claims since the #MeToo movement began and examines the value of updating workforce policies and training for employees among other topics. Attorney Reeber is an employment law attorney and litigator and frequently conducts training workshops on important HR issues as part of his practice.

Partner Brian J. Lamoureux was featured in a news story that was broadcast on NBC10 entitled, Keeping up with your kids: Are you social media savvy?. Attorney Lamoureux, who is a national voice on digital and social media law, provided commentary on the need for parents to be vigilant about the latest social media apps that children may be using without parental knowledge and how parents can better safeguard their children against the harmful consequences of social media use. Attorney Lamoureux is a frequent speaker, broadcast commentator and published author on issues related to digital and social media law. His practice also includes business and employment law.

Attorneys Rebecca M. Murphy and Samantha M. Vasques co-authored a comprehensive article entitled, A New Hope: Tortious Interference with an Expected Inheritance in Rhode Island, which was published in the Roger Williams University Law Review. The article details the genesis and development of tortious or wrongful interference with an expected inheritance and highlights differences in the approach states take regarding torts requirements as well as damages available to victims. It also discusses a RI Superior Court ground breaking decision that recognized for the first time in the state's history the independent tort of tortious interference with an expected inheritance.
